This month's Tech Tip tells you how to PREPARE YOUR CAR FOR WINTER

11 Tips to PREPARE YOUR CAR FOR WINTER

1. Check the condition of your battery. Look for corrosion on the battery terminals.  We will test it for free if you are uncertain.
2. Flush and fill your cooling system. Use a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water.
3. Studies show one in three vehicles on the road have damaged belts and hoses. So check all belts and hoses. Hoses - look for cracking, swollen or chafed hoses. Squeeze them, they should be firm yet flexible. Mushy or brittle hoses need to be replaced. Replace every 3 years/50,000 miles - this is important because hoses can wear from the inside. They may look good on the outside, but can be near failure.
4. Replace radiator cap and thermostat every 3 years/50,000 miles
5. Check your windshield wipers. Apply Rain-X, Fog-X if needed.
6. Use washer fluid that has antifreeze in it
7. Change your oil and filter - make sure you use the correct weight according to your owner's manual for winter operation
8. Replace Spark Plugs and change Gas Filter
9. Check tire pressure on all tires, including the spare
  10. Use a fuel system dryer to ensure you have no moisture in your fuel system
  11. Make sure you have these miscellaneous necessities inside the car somewhere
